Lovable vs Replit: which AI app builder should you use?
7 min read
Last updated October 20, 2026. How we pick: we compare the job each tool is for, from public product pages, not a paid ranking.

Short answer: pick Lovable if you want a polished web app, internal tool or landing page from a plain-language prompt, with hosting, a built-in backend and two-way GitHub sync handled for you. Pick Replit if you want one cloud workspace that can also build native iOS and Android apps, run several Agent tasks in parallel, and ship from a real development environment. Both are free to start and both are built for people who would rather describe software than write it line by line.

Plans, credits and limits change often, so check both live pricing pages before you decide. Everything below comes from each product's own site and documentation.
What Lovable does
Lovable calls itself an AI software engineer that lets anyone build for the web. You describe what you want in plain language, watch it build in real time, then refine the design and publish. Its docs list the usual targets: SaaS products, internal tools, dashboards, CRMs, client portals, booking and marketplace apps, landing pages and AI-powered apps such as chatbots. It can also produce pitch decks, documents, images and short videos around the product.
The project chat has three modes. Chat mode lets you discuss your app without changing code. Plan mode investigates the project and writes a structured plan you edit and approve before anything is built. Build mode then implements the change across files, checks logs and network activity, and verifies the result. You can switch between them at any time and the conversation carries across.
Behind the app sits Lovable Cloud, a built-in backend on Supabase's open-source foundation. It covers the database, user sign-in, file storage, secrets, scheduled jobs, edge functions, logs and branded emails, and you can add AI features such as chatbots and image generation without managing API keys. Lovable also handles hosting and SSL, and its homepage says it processes payments with local currency and tax handling for builders who sell.
Code ownership is a strong point. Lovable says the apps and code you create are yours. You can browse the code in a built-in editor, download the codebase, or connect a GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket repository with two-way sync, so developers can keep working in their own IDE and deploy anywhere. Editing code inside Lovable needs a paid plan.
One limit matters. Lovable builds web apps, not native ones. Its FAQ says it does not generate React Native projects, and suggests a Progressive Web App or a wrapper tool if you need something installable from an app store. Lovable does have its own iOS and Android app, but that is for building from your phone, not for shipping native apps.
What Replit does
Replit describes itself as an AI app and website builder that turns ideas into apps with no coding needed. It runs on the web, as a desktop app for macOS and Windows, and on iOS and Android. Under the chat sits a full cloud development environment, which is why many developers already know Replit as a place to code.
Agent is the core. You choose a mode before each request: Free Mode for everyday chat and building within your plan's allowance, Power Mode for most serious work, and Max Mode for complex projects and larger codebases. Replit tells you before a request moves from Free Mode into a mode that uses credits. Plan Mode lets you brainstorm with Agent without touching code, and Routines can run recurring tasks on a schedule.
Replit's widest lead is in what it can build. Its docs walk through native iOS and Android apps built with Agent, tested on your own phone, and uploaded to App Store Connect and TestFlight from inside Replit. Paid plans also unlock other artifact types, such as data visualisations, slide decks and animated videos.
Replit Design is a separate canvas for the look of your app. It generates interactive mockups from a prompt, a template, a Figma frame or an existing website, lets you edit elements visually, and hands the winning frame to Agent to build. On the backend, Replit provides authentication, a managed Postgres database with separate development and production environments, hosting, monitoring and connectors for services like Google and Stripe.
For teams, Replit runs a shared Kanban board where several people can give Agent tasks on the same project, and its higher plan runs several tasks in parallel. You can import code from GitHub, Bitbucket, Vercel, Figma and other builders, including Lovable, and Agent can commit a change to a branch and open the pull request.
Free plans compared
Both let you build for free. Lovable's free plan gives you a daily grant of build credits plus a monthly grant for Cloud hosting and backend use, and a small allowance for trying AI features inside your app. You can publish, but the code editor is read-only until you upgrade.
Replit's free Starter plan gives you a daily Agent allowance, monthly credits for databases, storage and publishing, and access to Replit Design. You can publish one free app, which carries a Made with Replit badge and expires after a set period unless you republish it. Plan Mode, connectors and the more autonomous full build need a paid plan.
Paid plans and credits
Both run on credits, but they meter them differently. On Lovable, the cost of a build message depends on how complex the task is, while a Plan mode message has a flat cost, and you can see the cost of each message in your history. Credits cover building, hosting and AI features from one balance. Lovable does not charge per seat: every plan supports unlimited workspace members who share the credit pool, with admin limits per member.
On Replit, paid plans include a Free Mode allowance for everyday work and monthly credits for Power and Max Mode, publishing, data transfer and database storage. Replit's higher plan adds more collaborators, credit rollover, parallel tasks, a longer database recovery window and priority support, again with no per-user fees. Check the live Lovable pricing page and Replit pricing page for current tiers.
For teams and businesses
Both sell an Enterprise tier with SSO, SCIM provisioning and audit logs. Lovable lists SOC and ISO security certifications, built-in security scans, sensitive data scanning and EU inference for AI requests. Replit lists SSO and SAML, SOC compliance, admin controls, single-tenant and private networking options and a bring-your-own-cloud option for larger organisations.
If your team mostly needs internal tools, portals and dashboards that non-developers can build and engineers can review in GitHub, Lovable fits well. If your team wants a shared coding workspace, native mobile output and several builders driving Agent at once, Replit fits better.

- Pick Replit if you need a native iOS or Android app, or want to publish to the App Store from the same place you build.
- Pick Replit if you want a full cloud coding environment behind the chat, parallel Agent tasks and a shared board for a team.

Can I move a project between them?
Yes, both ways. Replit can import a Lovable project from the GitHub repository you export it to, and Lovable can import a Replit project from a downloaded ZIP and move its database and users to Lovable Cloud.
